Does mass inter-ethnic violence permanently reduce inter-ethnic trust, or does inter-ethnic trust (fully) recover? And, if so, what is driving the recovery process? I am currently working on these questions together with Marijke Verpoorten. In doing so, we are mapping changes in the self-reported levels of inter- and intra-ethnic trust on a scale from -5 (lowest) to +5 (highest). The animations below capture these changes over time for the case of Burundi (inter-ethnic trust) and Rwanda (comparing intra-ethnic with inter-ethnic trust). More info can be found in a working paper Comments are closed.
